Many people like to bathe their pets in between their grooming sessions.  This is a wonderful way to keep your pet clean, but you must remember that there is a right way and a wrong way to bathe at home.  Always remember to brushGarretts Pet Ranch Serving Townville, Anderson and Upstate, SC - Grooming and Boarding Services out your pet's coat BEFORE you bathe him or her.   Most people don't realize that this is the number one reason your pet's fur becomes matted.  If there are any knots in his or her coat, the water will make them become tighter and tighter until your groomer has no choice but to shave the coat short.  Brushing before the bath will prevent this situation.

Brush the coat out first with a brush and then go through it with a comb to make sure all the mats are out.  Most times the matting will be close to the skin so you must make sure you are not just brushing the top coat.  Be sure you do not brush super hard next to the skin so as not to give your pet a brush burn.  Garretts Pet Ranch Serving Townville, Anderson and Upstate, SC - Grooming and Boarding ServicesAfter you are sure all of the matting is out, you can proceed to the bath.  It is important to brush your pet after the coat has dried as well but this will be much easier since all of the knots were taken out prior to the bath!!

Do not attempt to cut any mats out at home with scissors.  It is very, very easy to cut your pet's skin and should be left alone until your groomer can shave it out.

How often should my pet be groomed?
That depends on the type/condition of your pet's coat but a general timeframe is anywhere between 4 and 8 weeks. Many people have their pet groomed every other week or even every week.

Do you use medicated or hypoallergenic shampoos?
Yes, we have a variety of shampoos. Which one we use is based upon your pet's skin. We bathe all of our pets twice. First bath is to get all of the dirt out of the coat and the second one will be with one of our special shampoos.

How long will it take to groom my pet?
We try to work around your schedule as best as possible. We don't give you a set time that you need to bring your pet in but the earlier you arrive, the earlier we can get it home to you.

Do you bathe cats?
Yes, we do bathe cats. Many times we are asked if we give haircuts for cats. I only like to do this if it is absolutely necessary due to matting or skin conditions. The cat must be very comfortable with the process. Their skin is extremely thin and can be easily cut!! If he or she is not and you still would like them shaved, then we can refer you to your local veterinarian.

What forms of payment do your receive?
Garretts Pet Ranch will be glad to accept your personal check or cash for payment of services.
